Nokia Edge 2022 Is It Real or Just Rumors? HMD Reply

Recently, some of the latest Nokia cellphone models have been sought after by netizens. Some of the models that have appeared on social media for example, Nokia X 150, Nokia n100 2022, or Nokia 7610 5G. However, the most talked about model is the Nokia Edge 2022. From KompasTekno's search, the discussion on the Nokia Edge 2022 is quite lively on TikTok. No doubt, a lot of text and video content embeds the title "Nokia Edge 2022 which is viral on TikTok". On TikTok, there are several other queries that accompany Nokia Edge 2022, such as "Nokia Edge max", Nokia Edge 2022 or "Nokia Edge like iPhone". The query "Nokia Edge looks like iPhone" may arise from some video content that displays the design of a smartphone with the "Nokia" logo on the back, has a camera module that is very similar to the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 series. Nokia Edge 2022 spec rumors Possibly, its shape that looks like the latest iPhone is what makes people curious about the Nokia Edge 2022.
However, if you look again at the TikTok video about "Nokia Edge 2022", the leaked design renders vary from one video to another. The back looks are almost uniform, namely the back is decorated with a camera module with a zigzag lens arrangement like the iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 like this video. However, there is a slight difference in the middle of the back. For example, there is a "Nokia" logo with a white circle frame like this video or just the words "Nokia". But the appearance of the front, is different. Some have a screen decorated with a notch or "elongated blade like the iPhone X, some are decorated with a small camera hole in the middle like the Galaxy S22 series, some are without a "notch" or camera hole. This is quite unusual. Indeed, before launching, rumors of specifications and the form of a new smartphone were circulating. However, generally there are not many different leaked versions. Not just design. Rumors of other specifications Nokia Edge 2022 also has many versions. On average, leaked Nokia Edge 2022 specifications say that the phone will carry powerful specifications. RAM, for example, some say it will have a capacity of 10 GB, 12 GB, or 16 GB. The battery capacity is also called super jumbo, above the average smartphone today, which is 6,900 mAh, 7,400 mAh, 7,150, and so on.
One of the leaked specifications of the Nokia Edge which is quite annoying is the embedded chipset. Because, not a few say that this phone will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 5G chipset, as explained by the GSM Arena Specs site. In fact, the chipset series does not currently exist. At the end of 2021, Qualcomm officially changed its chipset nomenclature, where the 800 series name was no longer used. The last chipset that uses this nomenclature is the Snapdragon 888. After that, not Snapdragon 898, but Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. With all these high specifications, it is said that the price of Nokia Edge in Indonesia is set between 7-10 million. There are also those who say that the price ranges from 4-6 million, which is a bit difficult to agree with if the specifications carried are in the class of flagship to premium phones. Apparently, the Nokia Edge 20222 isn't just going viral on TikTok. The model is also widely discussed on Facebook. In fact, some openly promote the product by including a link to a marketplace. When clicked, the link does point to the official Nokia store. However, the Nokia Edge 2022 product was nowhere to be found. Some also include an affiliate link for a marketplace. To note, marketplace affiliates will get a commission when a transaction occurs via the shared link. What's worrying is if someone accidentally takes advantage of this "campaign" to "trap" by sharing a link that contains malware that is dangerous when clicked. The Nokia Edge concept has been around since 2017 The naming of the Nokia Edge 2022, which suddenly went viral, might not suddenly appear. If traced back, in 2017, rumors circulated about the Nokia 9 Edge concept, as reported by Gizmo China. The front view is somewhat similar to some of the recent renders of the Nokia Edge 2022, namely the wide camera, but has a bezel on the top side, not a notch-like blade. However, the back is not equipped with an iPhone-style camera module. The rear camera is arranged vertically, with the fingerprint sensor at the bottom. Nokia's Response KompasTekno has contacted the representative of HMD (Nokia license holder) in Indonesia. Via email (e-mail), HMD did not confirm the Nokia Edge 2022 rumor. "We can't comment on rumors or speculation about this," an HMD representative explained.
This statement is different from the narrative that has been circulating so far, where several media outlets say that Nokia has confirmed that it will release the Nokia Edge 2022 in Indonesia. I don't know where the virality of Nokia Edge 2022 on TikTok came from, which spread to other platforms. It is also not known for sure what the purpose of this "campaign" is for this magical cell phone. It's possible, the rendering circulating on TikTok is the creation of Nokia fans who miss the return of the legend. Smartphone design is actually not something new and commonplace. Anyone can design a smartphone design according to their wishes. Usually there are several credible media outlets that do specifically design smartphone renders. However, the design is based on strong leaks circulating and provided by credible sources, such as sources within the industry, opening up bottomless fiction. Sometimes, they also design based on patents that have been registered and can be accessed by the public. So, the existence of the Nokia Edge 2022 is still uncertain until now. Is the phone just "made up" or really will be prepared by Nokia. What is clear, HMD so far has not provided certainty of information about the Nokia Edge 2022 and other models that have been busy lately. The latest information actually implies that HMD Global does not plan to launch a flagship smartphone under the Nokia brand. Instead, HMD Global focuses more on preparing feature phones, as well as entry-level and mid-range smartphones that are cheaper. In Indonesia, this segment is in the price range of IDR 1-7 million. "Creating a phone for $800 (around Rp. 11.3 million) doesn't make sense to us right now. HMD doesn't want to get into a massive specs war with other players," said Adam Ferguson, Head of Product Marketing at HMD Global. Android Authority. That means, the Nokia 9 PureView (2019) and Nokia 8.3 (2020) will be HMD's last flagships under the Nokia brand, if the news is true.
