The etiology of acute hepatitis which causes liver inflammation in children is unknown
Various speculations and hypotheses began milling about following the outbreak of acute hepatitis in 12 countries in the world, including Indonesia, in the past month. The etiology of acute hepatitis that causes inflammation of the liver in children is unknown (Acute Hepatitis of Unknown aetiology) so it is called mysterious hepatitis. One of the hypotheses circulating is the news that the disease arises due to the effects of the COVID-19 vaccine being injected into the community. In response to this, the Chair of the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) COVID-19 Task Force, Professor Zubairi Djoerban, also spoke up. According to him, the hypothesis is not based on scientific facts. "This hypothesis is not supported by data, because most of the children affected by this mysterious hepatitis have not received the Covid-19 vaccination," said Professor Zubairi via a tweet on his Twitter account, Monday night (2/5/2022). According to Zubairi, most of the children who contracted this mysterious hepatitis experienced gastrointestinal problems first, followed by jaundice. His laboratory tests also showed signs of severe liver inflammation. Most children do not have a fever. "Mysterious hepatitis in children has become a hot topic recently around the world. Hundreds of cases were reported, including three children in Indonesia who died. What really happened?" he said. Currently, the Indonesian Ministry of Health is trying to investigate the cause of this mysterious hepatitis incident through a complete virus panel examination.
